Time at NSS:

"The academic support and flexibility at NSS allowed me to excel as a student athlete. With the support of my teachers, coaches and family, I was able to graduate on time, gain acceptance to a highly competitive undergraduate program and earn a spot on the provincial ski team. My experience at NSS has undoubtedly played an integral role in my career path since graduating.

NSS is able to provide a flexible academic schedule that can accommodate any sport. As an alpine skier, I was away from the classroom for up to 100 days per year. The ability to take work on the road, enroll in summer classes and schedule examinations around competitions not only allowed me to stay up to date with curriculum, but also gave me the essential study habits to be successful in post-secondary education.

The program at NSS does not only prepare student athletes to reach their full potential in their chosen sports, but also prepares them for academic and professional success beyond their athletic careers. I am grateful for the support I received as an NSS student."

Time at NSS:

"Being in an environment that surrounds you with other student athletes who are navigating a similar path as you and provides a supportive successful environment to develop both academically and athletically and gives the opportunity to pursue both at 100% instead of having to make a choice between the two.

If you require a space that is supportive, understanding and accommodating NSS is the space for you. NSS helps student athletes reach their potential both academically and athletically. The Students, Teachers and Staff are accommodating, resourceful, understanding and supportive to all your needs as both a student and an athlete.

NSS was the best high school experience for myself as academics was never my strong suit. The one on one, smaller classroom sizes and accommodation that NSS provided made my overall experience a great one and encouraged me to pursue my passions both academically and athletically. I made some of my best friends at this school, people who I am still close with to this day."

Time at NSS:

"NSS allowed me to find a balance between my sport and education endeavours. NSS fostered an environment where I had the flexibility to train and achieve my athletic goals, while still reaching a high level of academic success. In sum, it allowed me to take ownership over my pathway to success.

The great teachers who deeply care about their students, the flexibility to train and compete without the stress of traditional academic rigidity, and an environment of excellence with classmates who have big ambitions.

I won an international junior race in grade 9, and had reached the national team by grade 12. All while improving academically every year and earning top scores in the majority of my diploma exams."

Career:

While at NSS:

"NSS supported me in numerous ways. Although, the school is known for its flexibility and accommodations, it is the teachers and staff that make it a success. No matter how much school I missed, the teachers and staff were always there to support and care for me. I was a competitive show jumper my whole life, and it was not until Grade 12 that I realized that I can pursue sport and a typical career. School was always important to me, but my passion was riding horses. I missed months at a time and was constantly stressed out that I was falling behind. The teachers at NSS assured me that I could do it all. Not only was that a possibility, but that I could exceed my own expectations in all aspects of life. I would not have gone on to higher education or succeeded in sport without them!

In Grade 12, I had some personal family issues that also attributed my absence from school. The teachers and staff were always accommodating and when I came back, they took me in with open and caring arms. I am very grateful for the education and life lessons NSS taught me.

Student athletes should choose NSS, because NSS realizes how dimensional life can be and how students can have more than a single goal in life. They are always understanding and accommodating, yet will always push students to strive for their highest potential.

My overall experience at NSS was fantastic. I made wonderful friends and met lifelong mentors. NSS is a tight-knit community that will always have your back."

Time at NSS:

"I found NSS valuable for my schooling and sport performance because the school allowed me to have a very flexible schedule for exam and assignment due dates. If you were away for you sport, they set up a deadline personalized for your preference. The teachers were also very understanding and helped you if you were having trouble with a topic that you missed or didn’t understand a certain aspect of the course.

A student athlete should choose NSS as their high school because it creates a personalized schedule for due dates that allows you to balance both school and sport. NSS is exceptional for student athletes who are looking to continue their sport and achieve their dreams, while also receiving an amazing education that will ensure success in the future.

Another integral part of NSS was the fun environment that every teacher brought to class. There was never a dull moment in class and I was constantly laughing and enjoying my time as a student. Another important factor that comes with NSS is sport psychology that is offered in physical education class. This class allows you to understand the mental aspect that comes with sport and strategies you can use in your sport specifically."
